Meet Jolyn
I was previously as a nurse, Home Care case manager and worked extensively in seniors housing before moving into the real estate world. I am able to bring a level of compassion and caring to an often overwhelming and complex life transition.
My background in health and housing allows a level of sensitivity during the up and downs of an often emotional journey in buying or selling your home. I am especially aware of the complexity that comes when selling your last home before moving to retirement living or a nursing home. I love to be a guide to break down every step in the process at a pace that makes sense for you and the complexities of your situation. Together, I work around your schedule, and meet you where needed, as life doesn’t slow down to make time for your real estate transaction. You remain in charge of this transaction, but you gain a guide and, more importantly, a friend at your side through it all.
I am passionate advocate for active aging – taking an active role in making decisions that promote aging-in-place, downsizing to the right home as we age, and assisting older adults maintain control when it is necessary to change their living circumstances. Managing Difficult Life Transitions
With a background as a nurse, I’m well prepared to assist you with emotionally challenging moves and transitions. I call these the 5 D’s of real estate, as they are tricky situations to manage: death, disease, divorce, dementia, and disability.
When someone in the family is going to die or there has been a death in the family, many need to finalize real estate needs quickly. Often the financial resources are tied up in the home. I can come in with sensitivity at a difficult time to help minimize burden on the family but get the job done.
Experience the diagnosis of a life altering disease can be murky waters to navigate. I’ve met many families that can no longer manage in a 2 storey home, need something closer to transportation or even want to be closer to their treatment center. Being a past nurse I understand your current and future needs, which allows us to plan the right move for you!
No one likes to speak about a divorce, and they often are certainly not planned. This life altering decision can be more complex when trying to keep the same schools for the kids, set up co-parenting homes close to one another or just trying to maintain privacy as you begin separate lives. I can work with both sides separately or together - whatever works best for your situation. I know how emotionally draining this time can be for all involved. Feel your divorce is quite high-conflict - no worries, I’ve dealt with all of that. I can discretely manage the needs of all involved during this transition.
When someone in the home is experiencing dementia, planning to move can be a really difficult transition. I have resources for safe accommodation away from the home if necessary so the home can easily be shown without being disrupted from routine multiple times a days. I can work with families and power of attorney agents to make decisions to be in their loved ones best interest. I’ll ensure the caregivers don’t experience too much stress as they are already at their maximum load.
Whether an adult or a child has a disability in the home - finding the next home that can be accessible and appropriate to meet changing needs can be challenging. We will work through current and future accessibility needs, and ensure your new home is up to the challenge!
